Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs
If you book your place before June 30th a lower price will apply to many of the ticket options. After that date the higher price shown will apply. If you do take advantage of the early booking discount then you must pay within the 15 day period in order to still qualify for the discount.
If you are a paid-up member of the UK Wind Engineering Society then you can select that option to pay a reduced price for some of the ticket items. Your name will be checked against the current WES membership list to check that you do qualify.
To use the discounted student prices you must be a student in full time education at the time of the conference. We ask that you provide the name and contact details for your professor/supervisor so that we can verify your student status.
VAT stands for Value Added Tax and it works like a sales tax except that registered businesses can reclaim the VAT they pay on items bought for use in the business meaning that the tax is effectively paid on the “value added” by the business. In the UK the current rate is 20%, having been increased as part of the government’s austerity measures during the recent downturn.
Yes. Our current understanding is that because the conference is taking place in the UK the tax must be charged to everyone who attends.
The honest answer we don’t know. You will need to check with your own local tax authorities about whether the VAT you pay on the conference can be reclaimed or classed as a business expense.
When you complete your online booking you should see a confirmation page in your browser. Once the the booking has been received by the organisers we will send an acknowledgement and an invoice within 2-3 days normally. If you have not heard from us within 5 days, please contact us to make sure your booking was received.
Payment is due within 15 days of the invoice date and, in any case, payment must be received before the conference begins in order to secure your place, accommodation and/or meals.
You can pay by bank transfer, credit card or (for UK residents only) by cheque. You can also use your PayPal account, if you have one.
No.The invoice is generated using PayPal because that offers a flexible way to manage the invoices and to provide the ability to pay by credit card. If you have a PayPal account you can use that, or you can use the pay by credit card option, or you can use the bank details provided on the form to make a bank transfer. Cheques are only acceptable if drawn on a UK bank.
The bank details will be shown on your invoice and can be used to set up a bank transfer. Please make sure that you agree to pay all charges related to the transfer because if we do not receive the full value of the payment we will not consider your invoice to have been paid.
There is no additional fee charged by the conference organisers. PayPal may show a warning about possible charges but whether they are charged and how much they will be depends on your card issuer. If you are paying from overseas and your credit card account is in a different currency to British Pounds then they are likely to be currency conversion charges applied to your account. This is normal and is the same as would happen if you used your credit card while abroad on holiday.
Yes, but only if your bank is a UK bank and the account is a British Pounds account.
